This page explains how Manchester Tourism Guide makes money, which links are paid, and what that means for what you read here. The short version appears at the top of every guide as well, because a disclosure you have to go looking for is not much of a disclosure.

The short version

Our booking links are routed through a partner that adds commission tracking automatically. If you book through one, we earn a commission from the provider, at no extra cost to you. It never affects what we recommend.

How this site is funded

We work with Stay22, a booking partner that handles the accommodation links on this site. Rather than tagging links by hand, its script rewrites booking links as the page loads and adds a referral tag. When you follow one of those links and make a booking, the provider pays us a small commission. The price you pay is the same either way.

Because the rewriting happens in your browser as the page loads, we cannot mark individual links in advance and tell you which ones are paid — which is why the disclosure at the top of each guide is unconditional rather than attached to particular links. Treat any link to somewhere you can book as one that may have been rewritten.

Nothing on this site is a paid placement. No business has paid to be included, to be ranked, or to be described favourably, and we do not accept sponsored posts, paid guest articles or link insertions. The commission follows a recommendation that was already made on the merits, and it has never created one. Most of the outbound links in the guides — to museums, transport operators, clubs and civic bodies — earn nothing at all, and are there so you can check a detail at source.

What this means for your data

The Stay22 script identifies your device so that a booking can be credited to us. It does this using characteristics of your browser and device rather than a cookie, and it stores an identifier in your browser’s local storage. Blocking third-party cookies therefore does not stop it; refusing the marketing category in this site’s cookie settings does, because the script is held back until you agree to it. Refusing costs you no content.

We never see your booking, your travel dates, your name or your payment details. What comes back to us is a count of clicks and, occasionally, the fact that a booking happened. There is more detail in our privacy policy, and the commercial side is covered in our terms.
